WP2 part 2 comments and reflections Draft

Brandon Smith English 15 4-9-19 https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/18/opinion/free-public-college.html Comment 1 Currently as someone who is a college student at Penn State I have to agree with you that free college tuition would be something that would be hard to achieve. The money that goes into tuition is not only tuition, but it also books and room and board in involved in getting a college education. I also wanted to learn more about how everyone would be affected if college tuition was ever free. Questions that I asked my self were “Where will this money for free college come from?” “How will students be affected if college is free?” While reading other articles one jumped out at me titled “Responsibility or liability? Student load debt and time used in college” by Natasha Yurk Quadlin and Daniel Rudele. The author of this article conducted extra research and interviews on how students spend their time in college. This article brought up one great point and that is th...

WP2 part 2 Part 1-2

Part 1 Comments that are effective 1. " College isn't everything. Skilled trades can pay just as much and are vitally needed to the economy. Students should not be bankrupting themselves for a degree they cannot afford. The US need people with practical, real world skills more than 4 year degrees and a mountain of debt. Ending the stigma surrounding trade schools and blue collar jobs would be a far better use of space in the NYT."-(Caroline) This comment is effective because it goes in depth about how sometimes college isn't really worth it for some types of studies. One "move" that She tells us that there are other alternatives that people can use to get an education. 2. " Nothing is more expensive than " free" college. Professors aren't going to work for free. The campus and facilities aren't free. Students who are paying nothing aren't going to complain about the costs they aren't paying. Schools will raise the fe...

Final letter to the editor

Brandon Smith English 015 2-14-19 Letter to the Editor The issue I will be responding to is minimum wage  (https://www.pennlive.com/opinion/2019/02/pennsylvania-in-dire-need-of-a-minimum-wage-increase-opinion.html) LTE #1 Dear Editor, While reading through your article on pennlive about wanting to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr I would like to respectfully disagree with you. As a college student reading this you would think that I would want the minimum wage to be increased, but I am part of the population that disagrees with you. Allow me to explain why I think this way.  Firstly, I believe minimum wage is just supposed to be a start for a first job for high school and college students. It is not supposed to be something that you are able to support a family on. That is why we have college, so we can further our education and get a job that pays well, and you are able to support your family. Do I think $7.25 is low? In some cases, yes, I do because of how...
