PB1B
- Part 1: Think about a public argument that you’d like to make for WP1. What issues do you care about what? What would you like to advocate foror against, and why?
For my public argument I would like to argue that the minimum wage should be raised to an amount that someone can live off of. I would argue that is should be raised to an amount that is reasonable not what people want which is $15/hr. Minimum wage is a starting wage and it is not something that you should be able to support a family on. It is for high school students and maybeeven some college students. I would argue this because people should make more money, but it should not get to a point where people are losing their jobs because it is too expensive to hire these people.
- Part 2: Looking ahead to WP1, you’ll need to write a Letter to the Editor (actually two of them!). Take a look back at the 3 examples that you collected for PB1A. What “moves” (decisions, techniques, or strategies) did these writers made which you’d like to consider using in some way for your WP1 assignment.
The types of “moves” these people used were agreeing with the people. They shared their ideas about what they thought about the current situation and gave ways to change it. - Part 3: Evaluate these three Letters to the Editor: Who do you think wrote the best LTE, and why? What “didn’t work” and why? As you answer these questions, think about the intended audience of each piece.
I think that out of the three letters the best one was the one written by Daniel Long because he put the argument in that two people working full time cannot raise a family above the poverty line. Something that didn’t work was also this because I like many people believe that the minimum wage should not be something the can be able to raise a family even if the parents are working full time.
